Abstract:

In French law, the bailiff has a long-established history. Bailiff is a public officer, a person authorized by the Ministry and a legal assistant. However, the bailiffs are not civil servants but self-employed. Bailiffs carry out dozens of activities. The most important main traditional activities that bailiffs perform in the monopoly are enforcement and the service of documents. In this study, the history of the profession and its characteristics, the entry conditions to the profession, the professional structure and the activities of the bailiff are examined. The status, rights, obligations and liabilities of the bailiff are examined in light of doctrine and court practices.
