Özet

This chapter is prepared to give general information about ships. Human beings and their unlimited needs have been the main research subject of economics, and it is one of the main reasons for continuous research and development. The fact that three-fourth of the earth is composed of water surfaces such as oceans, seas, lakes, rivers, and streams caused humankind to be interested in maritime exploration. The sea, which was previously used for the search for basic food, has developed more as a result of mankind's exploration of the earth. Ships, which become indispensable, gained importance and claimed their place in shipping and maritime history. Initially, the use of ships, which started very primitively with the technology of the time and the abilities of human beings, has replaced the concept of vehicles that meet the needs of the developing technology. The most important type of transportation required for the realization of world trade is sea transportation. There are three important concepts for sea exploration and sea transportation that centered on human beings: ships, ports, and ship transportation lines. With the developing technology, ships and changing human needs cause changes in ships, ports, and transportation lines. Ships will continue to be used as long as the world exists; and as human needs continue, transportation and use over the seas will continue.
