Logistics 5.0: systematic literature review and future trends

Özet

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to examine the emerging paradigm of Logistics 5.0 within the broader context of Industry 5.0. It aims to identify how Logistics 5.0 differs from Logistics 4.0, to explore its key components and to assess its potential benefits with respect to sustainability, human-centricity and resilience. Design/methodology/approach – A systematic literature review was conducted using the Web of Science database, focusing on keywords related to Industry 4.0, Industry 5.0, Logistics 4.0 and Logistics 5.0. From an initial pool of 58 studies, 31 peer-reviewed articles were selected based on relevance and accessibility. Bibliometric analysis with VOSviewer software was then applied to visualize conceptual clusters, author collaborations and country-level contributions. Findings – The analysis reveals that while Logistics 4.0 remains a mature research domain emphasizing automation and digitalization, Logistics 5.0 introduces a paradigm shift by prioritizing human-centric approaches, sustainability and resilience. The bibliometric mapping highlights the growing significance of technologies such as artificial intelligence, blockchain and digital twins in enabling Logistics 5.0. Research activity is concentrated in countries such as India, the United States, and parts of Europe, with sustainability and human–machine collaboration emerging as dominant themes. Research limitations/implications – The study is constrained by the relatively small number of peer-reviewed articles available on Logistics 5.0, as well as by the limitations of database coverage. Nevertheless, the findings provide both theoretical insights and practical implications, guiding future research toward sustainability, resilience and human-centric innovation in logistics systems. Originality/value – This study contributes to the limited but rapidly growing body of literature on Logistics 5.0 by integrating systematic review and bibliometric methods. It offers a conceptual roadmap for aligning logistics research and practice with Industry 5.0 principles.
