A new method for medical image archival based on chaotic maps

Özet
The growth of imaging formats makes necessary an interoperability of image reading and writing (I/O) tools. Image encoding serves for both I/O instructions and image encryption for security. Image shuffling based on image encoding algorithms creates a new field in image processing. Image encoding is considered as a fundamental task in medical imaging for telemedicine and image archival. The interaction and interoperability of image acquisition between devices and remote applications generate new security and access problems. Radiologists, physicians and even patients have access to medical images. New security models propose chaotic maps for secure Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) in hospital engineering. New generation of chaotic map theory uses high-dimensional logistic maps. Both continuous and discrete models are in use for chaos theory. Chaotic models such as Arnold’s cat, Henon and logistic maps were found efficient in encryption and hardware applications. In this study,medical images were encoded with three different maps in order to compare the performance of chaotic models. Encoded maps were evaluated using different metrics such as histogram, entropy, number of pixel change rate and unified average changing intensity. Consequently, it is remarkable that each chaotic model offers a suitable encoding scheme in PACS using a compatible interface in remote access.
