Özet

This study aims to systematically investigate, prioritize, and mitigate the challenges encountered in ship spare parts inventory management within ship management companies. Effective inventory control is critical for ensuring operational continuity, preventing costly downtime, and maintaining maritime safety in global commercial shipping operations.

A structured empirical and process-analysis methodology was adopted to evaluate inventory and warehouse management processes. Operational risks and vulnerabilities were assessed through systematic expert consultations and operational data analyses involving chief engineers, technical superintendents, and logistics personnel. By evaluating key operational parameters, critical vulnerabilities and operational bottlenecks within the maritime supply chain were identified and prioritized.

The analysis reveals that the depletion of critical spare part stocks, inventory record discrepancies between enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems and physical stock, and delays in shore-to-ship logistics coordination constitute the most significant risks. Targeted corrective actions and proactive digital controls such as automated safety stock alerts, regular stock verification routines, and standardized logistics tracking portals are proposed to significantly enhance inventory reliability and control levels.

This research presents a comprehensive, risk-based framework specifically tailored to ship management operations, addressing the logistical challenges inherent in maritime supply chains. By integrating structured failure analysis with shipboard inventory systems, the study provides maritime professionals with actionable insights to enhance operational reliability and minimize vessel downtime.
