Dr. Öğr. Üyesi MELİSA KONFİDAN

Dr. Melisa Konfidan is currently working as an assistant professor of maritime and insurance law at Galatasaray University Faculty of Law, Istanbul, Turkiye. She holds an LLB from Istanbul University and obtained an LLM degree from Southampton University, United Kingdom, with her dissertation titled “Recovery of sue and labour expenses under marine insurance policies in English Law”.

After obtaining her lawyer’s certificate in 2008, she worked at a law firm specializing in maritime and insurance law. In parallel with her career as a lawyer she also commenced her Ph.D. studies at the University of Istanbul, Social Sciences Institute (worked at an insurance brokerage company's shipping department, a shipping company and a marine insurance company for almost five years in total) and as of 17th February 2020, her thesis was accepted by the jury unanimously and she obtained her PhD with her thesis, "Sea Vehicles Liability Insurance (P&I Insurance)".

She is a member of the British Insurance Law Association (BILA) and Turkish Insurance Law Association (AIDA Turkiye), and Turkish Maritime Law Association (CMI Turkiye). She also visited Hamburg Max-Planck-Institut für ausländisches und internationales Privatrecht e.V. as a guest researcher in November 2017 and March 2018.

Her research focuses on maritime law, marine insurance law, and insurance law.
